TV psychic Sally Morgan sues Daily Mail for defamation

TV psychic Sally Morgan is demanding damages of £150,000 from Associated Newspapers over a Daily Mail story accusing her of scamming a vulnerable audience.
The article, published on 22 September, was headlined: “What a load of crystal balls!”
It alleged Morgan pretended to have psychic powers when she was in fact simply repeating instructions from members of her team via a microphone and hidden earpiece, according to a writ lodge at the High Court.
Morgan, who was Princess Diana’s former psychic, claims the story caused substantial damage to her reputation, as well as hurt, distress and embarrassment.
The story was widely reported in the national press at the time but Associated Newspapers is the only publisher named on the writ. The story in question was an opinion piece by the magician and former psychic Paul Zenon.

Edgar Cayce is a very famous psychic who had predictions and prophecies about 2012, the pole shift (polar shift) and many other pieces of information about the Earth Changes that are coming with the date of December 21, 2012. He did not speak specifically about 2012, but rather his predictions were supposedly going to happen by the year 1998. His predictions were off and he had the timeline incorrect.

That is the trouble with predictions, it is hard to nail down the time at which they will happen specifically. That is the hardest part about prophecy: nailing down the timeline. Edgar Cayce's predictions are still thought to have much weight and probability. It is just that the timeline is off in his predictions. He suggested all these things would happen sooner than they are appearing in physical reality. They still might appear but at a later time. In fact, Cayce suggested that it would take generations for some of these things to come to pass. Shifting planets could take a long time to finish the process of rearranging themselves. Maybe that's where the 1000 years of peace on Earth come in, at least as far as the humans are concerned.

The intention of this article is to highlight some points in history when the paths of science and Spiritualism have crossed.I thought it would be interesting to look back at events which are recorded in history to see if there is anything to learn from them.

Having experienced cynical sceptics who would have me believe that science was the truth and Spiritualism was firmly in the realms of fantasy,I had remained a faithful Spiritualist purely on the strength of the wonderful, and hard to ignore, evidence given by Spiritualist mediums.
Ask a sceptic and they might tell you that the anecdotal evidence of mediumship is not enough to provide proof that spirits exist.To be fair it is not a mediums job to prove anything to the sceptics. But hey, I'm not a medium.

A CHART-topping singer says she's been visited by the ghost of her dead mother. Susan Boyle, 50, was left bereft when Bridget Boyle died in 2007 at the age of 91.

The pair shared the same home in Blackburn, West Lothian, in Scotland, for all of Boyle's life

"The council house is my mother's house. Her energy is still there," Boyle told The Sun.

In 1986, 27-year-old Cathy Comora visited her ophthalmologist after having some minor vision problems. She was horrified when her doctor told her she had optic neuritis, a severe inflammation of the optic nerve. Cathy was told she would probably go blind:

“It was a very frightening experience. He said I wouldn’t want to run out right away and buy a white cane, but it’s very serious and I was scared. I mean, I suddenly realized that there is a possibility that I could go blind.”

Since there is no known cure for the disease, Cathy chose to look for an alternative treatment. She found a doctor who was familiar with the mysterious methods of a man named Edgar Cayce. Edgar Cayce became famous in the 1920s for diagnosing illnesses, even though he had absolutely no medical training. In his lifetime, Cayce made more than 9,000 diagnoses, or “readings” as he called them, while in a deep, self-induced trance. Even though Edgar Cayce died in 1945, many practitioners still follow his teachings. Some dismiss the cures as mere lucky coincidence. But for those diagnosed with a disease that modern medicine cannot cure, Edgar Cayce’s methods continue to hold out hope.

What Spiritualists Face : James Van Praague

A piece in the once respected Huffington Post (the on-line newspaper sold by Arianna Huffington for over 100 million dollars without her informing the dozens of writers and contributors who had worked gratis for the publication.) shows the type of gratuitous attacks anyone involved in the paranormal can come under.

Now it carries a Weird News section, not to dissimilar to tens of thousands of other websites but this piece caught our eye. Magician James Randi who has made a living out of attacking anything outside his realm and Spiritualism comes in for a bashing from the man as well. The new Huffington Post is stumbling and perhaps this one reason.

Randi operates the so-called : The James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) describing itself as : a non-profit organization dedicated to providing reliable information about paranormal claims, and helping members of the public protect themselves against 'psychic' and pseudo-scientific scams"

It may not be 'for profit' but it's a great channel for promoting James Randi who offers a $1M prize for anyone who can prove various matters. The Spiritualist lawyer Victor Zammit offers a similar prize for anything who can disprove things paranormal yet Randi has never applied for it.

The article is the usual series of false claims with a demand that Praague disprove the lies (something we at Enmore are used to over the past 2 years). One myth it perpetuates is that Barbara Walters called Praague a 'fake' because he said to her in a private moment off-screen that she had 'blood problems' Walters had a complete health check-up and then went on The View and against all journalistic principles called James on the health claim. 6 Months later she was rushed to hospital for an emergency heart operation.

The controversy surrounding physical medium David Thompson

If anyone has had the rare privilege (as this writer has twice) to sit in a circle with a physical medium and witnessed materialisations, they will know that it is probably the most fascinating and exciting experience. It is an experience that many Spiritualists aspire to.

Recently a controversy has arisen over the well known medium David Thompson.

Enmore reserves an open mind not knowing or having met with Thompson but knowing some of the personalities involved who have sat with him. One Spiritualist who we respect highly wasn't impressed at a recent sitting in the UK.

Another-who we greatly respect was most enthusiastic about David.

The new Spiritualist publication Spirit of SN carries an interview with David which can be read here.

It is up to each individual to decide what they wish to believe but Thompson gives a good account of himself in the interview.

One comment he made in his interview that was a source of great amusement amongst a group of us just a few nights ago was this :

"When my physical mediumship started, William warned there would be times when people would ridicule me and that most of the ridicule would come from within the Spiritualist movement."

Never were truer words said !.

Hopefully one day, we at Enmore may have the privilege of sitting with David Thompson in order to make up our own minds.

Anyone who was a regular visitor to the Enmore Spiritualist Church over 10 years ago will remember with great affection, the late Maureen Garth a medium who worked tirelessly for the Church and Spiritualism.

Maureen wrote books of poetry and books with meditations for children (more on that later) which were well received.

A friend of Maureen's sent a copy of her book to HRH Princess Diana and Maureen was delighted and surprised to eventually receive a personal letter from Princess Diana thanking her and saying she had used her meditations and read poetry to the then young Princes Harry & William to great effect!

Death and Clairvoyancy

When a person is recently bereaved (recent can mean a few days, weeks, months, or sometimes years), and they come for a reading, they expect the reader to see the death, and they want the reader to say something about the deceased person. You know the secret – the spirits on the left hand shoulder.
Sometimes these spirits are not present, and consequently I do not realise anything is amiss. This does not impress the client quite frankly, and so I resolved to find out what the problem is – is it me? Or is it something to do with the client?

A ripple of excitement has swept around the world of Spiritualism after it was announced that the assets of the 80 year old newspaper PN Psychic News have been purchased by the Spiritualist organisation, the JV Trust under the auspices of the chairman, the respected Minister Eric Hatton.

The JV Trust issued the following statement today:
" My fellow trustees and I are absolutely delighted to announce that yesterday, 4th October 2011, ownership of psychic News , it's archives and other assets passed to the J.V Trust".

In 2010 Psychic News published the front page story that Reverend Patricia Cleary had been vindicated in the NSW Supreme Court after several persons had made false claims about her tenure of the Enmore Spiritualist Church.
False and bizarre claims were made that local police and the Fraud Squad were investigating the church when no such investigation happened or was ever contemplated by the police as they aknowledged in writing to Rev. Cleary.

The article vindicating Reverend Cleary was firstly vetted by a retired British judge (who worked on Psychic News) to confirm accuracy and the legality of the article.

The Psychic News went into administration with a complicated legal situation occurring over ownership of it's assets that were thought to be owned by the Spiritualist's National Union (UK) who own and operate the famous Stansted Hall.
Prominent members of the SNU gave invaluable support and advice to Reverend Cleary, who enjoys a world-wide reputation for her promotion of the religion.

A psychic who was regularly consulted by the late princess Diana has hit back at allegations she was assisted when giving readings during a public demonstration of clairvoyance by a man feeding her information from outside a hall.

Following a presentation at Dublin's Grand Canal Theatre an audience member named 'Sue' claimed to have heard a man’s voice from the back of the auditorium relaying information to the psychic superstar on stage.

When the second half started we could clearly hear a man’s voice coming from the window behind us,’ she told RTE radio station in Dublin.

The Spirit of PN appeared on the net about 6 months ago and looks set to fill the void created when the decades old Psychic News newspaper was abandoned by one of Britain's foremost Spiritualists organisations, the SNU. It is edited by Sue Farrow and amongst it's contributors are many who wrote for the Psychic News.

The web newspaper (there is talk of a print edition which would be welcome ) currently has a story about a decision made by the SNU to ban the sale of a book at it's book store- which we only recently recommended :Eric Hatton’s long awaited book, Taking up the Challenge.

Eric Hatton is one of the most loved Spiritualists in Britain and the decision to ban his book from sale at the SNU has upset many people who are perplexed as to the reasons. It seems an extremely harsh decision for a man who has worked most of his life to aid the SNU.

THEY are haunting images of bedlam - an Australian lunatic asylum that opened more than 170 years ago.

An exhibition by photographer Yvette Worboys titled Ghosts has captured eerie images of the former Gladesville Mental Hospital, in Sydney, which opened in November 1838 and closed in 1997.
Worboys, who has lived in the area most of her life, said she was drawn to the partly derelict hospital by its residual energy.
"There is quite a presence, an energy, there," Worboys said.

More than 1200 patients are buried in unmarked graves on the property. Ms Worboys said psychics asked to analyse her photos believed there was a presence in them.
"Mediums have looked at the images and seen a presence there," she said.

One of psychology’s most respected journals has agreed to publish a paper presenting what its author describes as strong evidence for extrasensory perception, the ability to sense future events.

The decision may delight believers in so-called paranormal events, but it is already mortifying scientists. Advance copies of the paper, to be published this year in The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, have circulated widely among psychological researchers in recent weeks and have generated a mixture of amusement and scorn.

The paper describes nine unusual lab experiments performed over the past decade by its author, Daryl J. Bem, an emeritus professor at Cornell, testing the ability of college students to accurately sense random events, like whether a computer program will flash a photograph on the left or right side of its screen. The studies include more than 1,000 subjects.

Some scientists say the report deserves to be published, in the name of open inquiry; others insist that its acceptance only accentuates fundamental flaws in the evaluation and peer review of research in the social sciences.

“It’s craziness, pure craziness. I can’t believe a major journal is allowing this work in,” Ray Hyman, an emeritus professor of psychology at the University Oregon and longtime critic of ESP research, said. “I think it’s just an embarrassment for the entire field.”

The editor of the journal, Charles Judd, a psychologist at the University of Colorado, said the paper went through the journal’s regular review process. “Four reviewers made comments on the manuscript,” he said, “and these are very trusted people.”

All four decided that the paper met the journal’s editorial standards, Dr. Judd added, even though “there was no mechanism by which we could understand the results.”

But many experts say that is precisely the problem. Claims that defy almost every law of science are by definition extraordinary and thus require extraordinary evidence. Neglecting to take this into account — as conventional social science analyses do — makes many findings look far more significant than they really are, these experts say.

“Several top journals publish results only when these appear to support a hypothesis that is counterintuitive or attention-grabbing,” Eric-Jan Wagenmakers, a psychologist at the University of Amsterdam, wrote by e-mail. “But such a hypothesis probably constitutes an extraordinary claim, and it should undergo more scrutiny before it is allowed to enter the field.”…

OK, so here it is: I’m a freelance producer and research coordinator of a paranormal investigative organisation in Sydney.

You can say that I have been to some really freaky places over the years. Besides chasing the unexplained, my passion is to convey the weird side of this great continent to a large audience. I guess this was the main motivation for my interest in production.

I have taken a lot of journeys, experienced many adventures while exploring the unexplained (hauntings, UFOs, … you know the things folks don’t really like to talk about).

Kanova Productions basically says, ‘Hey, it’s OK to come out and share your experiences with others’. And the people who do are normal everyday folk looking for validation. That’s all!

So what if certain individuals are judgemental? Think of it this way: they are the ones lacking the valuable experience that you had.

Back to the story. In 2002 I produced a low budget UFO doco called The Oz Unknowns. I guess we all have to start somewhere. This was two years after establishing an investigative group in southwest Sydney. The Oz Unknowns featured three stories about Aussies experiencing bizarre aerial phenomena (UFOs).

When branching out into afterlife research, I released PI – Paranormal Investigators. Again, it was limited in the way we expect to see such a production. The material used was raw footage, taken from investigations, so it gave it that rustic, spooky feel.

When PI was aired in Sydney and Melbourne I was surprised how popular the series was.

After producing some trial documentaries, I decided to take an innovative approach to ghost hunting and created, produced Paranormal Investigators – The Challenge in 2008. A trainee was introduced, someone with no experience, chasing the paranormal through dark corridors and creepy forests.

"Eventually, it was the turn of one of the substitute sitters to be greeted. As Rohan (the materialised spirit) was about to take his hands in welcome, the man sprang forward and grabbed him!

Throwing his arms around the spirit figure, he held on to him tightly, shouting, "I've got you!" The sitter was obviously convinced he had captured the draped medium in the act of duplicity, masquerading as a spirit form.

As Rohan's figure quickly dematerialised there was a loud groan from Alec in the cabinet. Then came a cry of pain as the ectoplasm swiftly returned to his body with the impact of a sledge-hammer.

The treacherous sitter fell dazed to the floor as the "solid" body he had held so tightly minutes before disappeared. I threw myself on him, desperately flailing with my hands, sobbing: "Oh don't! You'll kill my husband! You fool, you'll kill him!"

The man looked up at me, his eyes wide, terrified. The realisation dawned on him it had not been the medium he had grasped, but what it purported to be, a fully materialised spirit form.

Meanwhile the second impostor, taking advantage of the commotion that ensued, rushed to the window and pulled aside the closed curtains, having previously tampered with them during the "meditation" session earlier. This revealed his confederates outside the window. They had a battery of cameras focused on the seance room, on the cabinet in particular.

Harry Houdini (born Erik Weisz; March 24, 1874 – October 31, 1926) was a Hungarian-born American magician and escapologist, stunt performer, actor and film producer noted for his sensational escape acts. He was also a skeptic who set out to expose frauds purporting to be supernatural phenomena.

Harry Houdini was born as Erik Weisz (he later spelled his birth name as Ehrich Weiss) in Budapest, Hungary, on March 24, 1874.[1] From 1907 on, however, Houdini would claim in interviews to have been born in Appleton, Wisconsin, on April 6, 1874.

His parents were Rabbi Mayer Samuel Weiss (1829–1892) and his wife, Cecelia (née Steiner; 1841–1913). Houdini was one of seven children.
Weiss came to the United States on July 3, 1878, sailing on the SS Fresia with his mother (who was pregnant) and his four brothers.[3] The family changed the Hungarian spelling of their German surname into Weiss (the German spelling) and the spelling of their son's name into Ehrich. Friends called him "Ehrie" or "Harry".

Houdini began his magic career in 1891.[6] At the outset, he had little success. He performed in dime museums and sideshows, and even doubled as "The Wild Man" at a circus. Houdini focused initially on traditional card tricks. At one point, he billed himself as the "King of Cards". But he soon began experimenting with escape acts.

Debunking spiritualists :

Houdini demonstrates how a photographer could produce fraudulent "spirit photographs" that documented the apparition and social interaction of deceased individuals[33]In the 1920s, after the death of his mother, Cecelia, he turned his energies toward debunking self-proclaimed psychics and mediums, a pursuit that would inspire and be followed by later-day conjurers. Houdini's training in magic allowed him to expose frauds who had successfully fooled many scientists and academics. He was a member of a Scientific American committee that offered a cash prize to any medium who could successfully demonstrate supernatural abilities. None were able to do so, and the prize was never collected. The first to be tested was medium George Valentine of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. As his fame as a "ghostbuster" grew, Houdini took to attending séances in disguise, accompanied by a reporter and police officer. Possibly the most famous medium whom he debunked was Mina Crandon, also known as "Margery".

Houdini chronicled his debunking exploits in his book, A Magician Among the Spirits. These activities cost Houdini the friendship of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Doyle, a firm believer in Spiritualism during his later years, refused to believe any of Houdini's exposés. Doyle came to believe that Houdini was a powerful spiritualist medium, had performed many of his stunts by means of paranormal abilities and was using these abilities to block those of other mediums that he was 'debunking' (see Conan Doyle's The Edge of The Unknown, published in 1931). This disagreement led to the two men becoming public antagonists.[citation needed]

Before Houdini died, he and his wife, Bess, agreed that if Houdini's spirit came back to earth, he would utter "Rosabelle believe" as a secret codeword to prove that it was actually him. This was a phrase from a play that Bess performed in when the couple first met. Bess held yearly séances on Halloween for ten years after Houdini's death, but Houdini's spirit never appeared. In 1936, after a last unsuccessful séance on the roof of the Knickerbocker Hotel, she put out the candle that she had kept burning beside a photograph of Houdini since his death, later saying in 1943 that "ten years is long enough to wait for any man." The tradition of holding a séance for Houdini continues by magicians throughout the world to this day; the Official Houdini Séance is currently organized by Sidney Hollis Radner, a Houdini aficionado from upstate New York.[34] Yearly Houdini Séances are also conducted in Chicago at the Excaliber nightclub by "necromancer" Neil Tobin on behalf of the Chicago Assembly of the Society of American Magicians;[35] and at the Houdini Museum in Scranton by magician Dorothy Dietrich who previously held them at New York's famous Magic Towne House with such magical notables as Houdini biographers Walter B. Healing is a state of attunement of the helper's spirit mind with the spirit doctors, the patient and the healing effort being made The act of holding forth the hands is symbolic of the desire, but has no practical use.

Healing takes place because a spirit remedial force is directed from the spirit doctors to the patient. This force is not a physical force but a spirit force. Therefore the physical hands are not needed as a conveyor of the force. The actual "healing time" may be a fraction of a second, and the best service contact healing can give is to gently see, by movement of limbs, etc.. the extent to which the ill condition has yielded. Healing is yielding. One cannot make a poker spine become flexible by pushing it. The cause of the spastic condition must first be removed, then it will yield and become flexible. Thus the main advantage in contact healing is to show the patient the extent of the yielding. If the trouble is not eased as much as the patient or healer would wish, it is useless for the healer to try and carry on for himself. The maximum spirit effort is always given and is continuously given so that the further yielding will come as the healing pursues its course. If immediate success is not seen, don't blame the patient or the spirit doctor and, above all, don't lose faith in your efforts as not being a good healer - for you do not heal. You are only the instrument. What the healer needs to become a better instrument is to develop the art of attunement with his spirit doctors, and this should be sought by constant desire in the developing circle and in the act of healing. Remember "attunement" comes with practice and experience, and the more experience a healer can get the surer will the attunement be, whilst also giving his spirit doctors experience in using him. Study all you do in the light of the fundamental postulate, the healing comes from spirit sources: not from the mind or body of the healer. With the greater attention our healers are receiving from the Press. the investigating Commissions, etc., it is time that our healing was freed from traditional extravagances, and conducted with simplicity and understanding, dignity and common sense.

A boy who almost died from a ruptured appendix has said he met the dead sister he did not know existed.

The extraordinary claims by Colton Burpo, aged four, came after he was misdiagnosed with flu while his family, from Imperial, Nebraska, were on a trip to Colorado. By the time they returned home he was seriously ill and had to undergo emergency surgery twice.

While he was in the operating theatre his parents, Todd and Sonya, prayed, believing they were going to lose their son. However, Colton soon recovered and then told his astonished parents that he had met the sister his mother had miscarried a year before his own birth.

There's something attractive about Bogdan, the Serbian boy who claims to be 'magnetic'

A seven-year-old boy in Serbia is attracting worldwide attention after his family claim he is magnetic.

To prove their claim, the family paraded the boy in front of an camera crew, with a variety of objects stuck to his chest.

The boy, called Bogdan, seemed unfazed by the attention - nor did he seem to mind having a variety of cutlery stuck to his body.

The footage ended up on MSNBC, where reporter Al Stirrett said Bodgan did indeed have a unique ability.

Mr Stirrett told MailOnline that the family did not offer their last name, possibly because of the age of the boy.

Nevertheless, they're happy to show off Bodgan's ability - which they claim he has had since birth.
The footage shows Bogdan first with a variety of cutlery attached to him, then a TV remote control is added to his body.

Frederic Myers

Frederick Myers was a professor of classics at Cambridge University in England. He was born in 1843 and he died in 1901. One overriding interest characterized this man: a passionate curiosity about the meaning of human life. He devoted most of his adult years to trying to satisfy this curiosity, but he did it in a rather unusual way. He did not pore over theological writings and philosophical speculation. He felt that if human life did have a purpose, then it could be discovered in only one way: through the study of human experiences. This conviction led him, in 1882, to found the first Society for Psychical Research with some of his Cambridge colleagues.

In particular, Myers and his associates wanted to know if human beings survived bodily death. If they did, then life in a body must have a discoverable purpose. Myers was a man of enormous energy and great intellectual ability. After twenty years of intensive investigation, he concluded that he had answered this question. He wrote a book about what he had learned that became a classic - probably the most important work ever written in this strange field - called "Human Personality and Its Survival of Bodily Death".

SPIRITUALISM- WHAT IS IT?

Spiritualism is a way of life. It combines philosophy, science and religion. It covers a very wide field, and, therefore, you cannot expect to understand it without a certain amount of study.

The primary object of Spiritualism today is to prove the survival of human personality after death. Death is the doorway to a new and wider life. From the day of our birth we each have two bodies, the material or earthly one, which can be seen, and the spiritual one, which is unseen during life but is a counterpart of our earthly organism. These two bodies are linked by a cord. In similar fashion, before birth a baby is joined to its mother by an umbilical cord. When it is born the cord must be cut.

When we die, the cord linking our two bodies is severed. The material body returns to the earth whence it came, and the spiritual one becomes the vehicle of our spirit. We are spirit here and now - we don't have to wait until death to become spirit. Death, as a rule, seems like sleep - there is no pain. When we awake, conditions seem much the same to us as before we 'died'.

We take with us into the beyond no material possessions but we do take our character and our individuality. In every way we are the same individuals immediately after death as before, with all our faults and virtues.

The home that awaits us in the spirit world depends on the life we have led on earth. If we have honestly tried to do the best we can then we need have no fear of death. We have fitted ourselves for the result which is automatic, a better, happier life where we are reunited with our loved ones and friends.

If, on the other hand, there has been more selfishness than goodness and service in our lives, we will automatically have to pay the price. This is part of the law of sowing and reaping, which is only another way of saying that effect must follow cause. It is perfectly summarized in the sixth principle, which says that hereafter there is compensation and retribution for all the good and evil done on earth.

Acts of service that we have performed will naturally increase our spiritual status. Sins of omission or commission will just as naturally retard it. There is, however, no hell in which its inhabitants are condemned for eternity. Once self-realisation dawns and the soul is ready to advance, there are enlightened spiritual beings who will show the way to progress.

The practical application of Spiritualism is the supreme necessity for all of us to lead the best kind of life we can on earth. To practice qualities of compassion and kindness and to give service wherever we can.

Heaven and hell are really states of mind, not geographical locations. Even here we can live in heaven or in hell; the choice is ours. The world we inhabit after death is not far away up in the sky. It is round and about us, interpenetrating the world in which we now live. Those we have 'loved and lost awhile' are not in some far-off inaccessible place, seated on pink clouds at the right had of God, playing golden harps and singing eternal praise. Very often they are close by our side, striving to help and guide us, and loving us just as they did before passing.

The evidence reveals that love, like life, is stronger than death. It is love that proves to be the compelling force, striving to break down the barriers which man, in his ignorance, has created between this world and what is called the next, in order to achieve spirit communication. Often there is grief on both sides of the veil. There are the tears shed over loved ones who have died, and the grief they experience when they try to reach us, but fail to make their presence known.

There are many spheres of existence that are invisible to us because they function in a different manner from earth. Millions of vibrations of sound are lost to us because they are outside the range of our hearing and millions of vibrations of sight fail to be registered because they are beyond the scope of our eyes.

Microphones and radio receivers enable us to hear what is normally beyond the range of our ears. The microscope, telescope and television will bring into focus what is beyond our vision. The inhabitants of the spirit world are very real even though we cannot see or hear them.

There are, however, highly sensitive individuals who have developed their innate natural psychic faculties with the result that they can tune into the spirit world and its denizens. These human television and radio sets are mediums. They become the agents through whom spirit communication is achieved.

There is nothing supernatural about this happening, though it is supernormal. Everything in the universe is in accordance with natural laws. They were devised by God and God is perfect. If it was God's will that we should be ignorant about divinely-ordained natural laws then we would know nothing about them.

God is not only perfect but all-powerful. God is spirit. God is not an old man with a long white beard who sits on a throne in heaven. To picture God as a human being is to impose limitations. God, if human, could not be in all places at once, nor hear every prayer.

God is not a person but the Creative Universal Spirit. Wherever there is life there is spirit; and wherever there is spirit there is life. We exist because a spark of divinity is within each one of us. This is the diving relationship in which God is our 'father' and we are all the Creator's children.

We can, by our lives, fan the spark into a flame so that a greater expression of divinity is made known through us. The result will be to sustain, uplift and help us in our spiritual development and we have the freewill to reject and ignore the spark of divinity. The result is that we fail to make the progress we should and deny ourselves the beauty that life has to offer.

We do not believe in a vicarious atonement as preached in some orthodox religions. We regard Jesus as an exemplar, not a saviour.

Man has no 'saviour' but himself. We are each personally responsible for our sins and must atone for them here or hereafter. It is far more moral to acknowledge our sins and try to make amends than to try to place them on the shoulders of another. We believe that Jesus was divine, but only in the sense that we are all divine. There is a difference of degree but not of kind.

We also believe, as the Bible states, that Jesus developed his psychic faculties and was a supreme master of spiritual law. Moreover he was in close touch with the spirit world and demonstrated his survival after his death. His teaching of brotherhood, love, humility and service is the basis of Spiritualism as we know it today.

We do not claim to know everything - no one does. Knowledge is infinite and we shall always be learning. What we do maintain is that we have received a glimmer of truth. It inspires us to search for more, rejecting anything that does not appeal to our God-given reason and accepting that which is logical and uplifting.

What makes Spiritualism unique is the evidence of survival after death that is obtainable through mediumship. Whereas most religions preach an afterlife as a hope, faith or belief, we maintain that reasonable people can prove it for themselves.

We do not ask you to believe what we say. What we do suggest is that you study the literature and then make your own inquiry.

" Headless monk forces ride to be moved at Thorpe Park "

BOSSES at a British theme park have been forced to move a new ride after workers reported seeing what appeared to be a headless monk, Sky News reports.

Staff building the ride at Thorpe Park, near London, encountered several strange phenomena, including the ghost and reports of objects being moved.
A paranormal detection agency called in by park bosses to carry out tests found that an ancient burial ground or settlement could have been disturbed.
Managers at the theme park decided to relocate the ride to another area and also called in a forensic team to carry out further investigations.
The ride, named "Storm Surge", was originally meant to have been built in an area on the site known as Monk's Walk. The old footpath has linked the ruins of nearby Chertsey Abbey to Thorpe Church since the year 666 AD.
The ride's foundations would have been in an area of the park where stone coffins were previously excavated.

This was in the time before Britain's national health service concept of free medicine for all had been introduced.

But her skill lay in Mediumship of a particular kind, that rare psychic gift of being a vehicle for physical phenomena whilst in trance state. A precious gift that brought comfort to thousands but one which was eventually to cost her her earthly life.

One of the best ways to 'study' Spiritualism is to attend large numbers of services although this can be a bit difficult in Australia because of the scarcity of churches. There are however a number of fine Spiritualist churches in every Australian state capital as well as some country areas.

Over the coming weeks we will bring you a list of churches known to Enmore who provide facilities for persons to train as a medium and attend meditation classes-often where people start to get a good feel for the religion. There really is no one place better than the other in that training to be a medium is a very personal thing but discipline and a calm atmosphere can make all the difference !

Lily Dale in New York State is not only one of the oldest US centres for Spiritualism, it is a charming hamlet with a hotel and cottages to rent so you can spend time there in an 'atmosphere' of Spiritualism. The countryside is beautiful. All the small houses in Lily Dale are owned by Spiritualists and when they are sold on, they must be sold to another Spiritualist.

What is Spiritualism ?

Often people are unaware that some Spiritualists are not psychic, and some psychics are not Spiritualists although the 2 often overlap.

As an example, the well known TV psychic John Edwards until recently never referred to himself as a Spiritualist. In the last 2 years he has.

Most of the Churches in Australia are run independently of each other although most hold the same types of services.

In England the religion has always been more organised with 2 umbrella groups -the Spiritualist Association of Great Britain-SAGB located in a beautiful building in London's Belgrave Square (although they are moving at present to a nearby more modern building) and the Spiritualists National Union SNU headquartered at Stansted Hall, about 40 miles outside London.

In the USA many churches belong to the National Spiritualist Association of Churches NSAC at the wonderful Lily Dale in New York State.

It is difficult to work out the numbers of Spiritualists in Australia. In the UK Spiritualism is the 6th largest religion but with around 42,000 adherents it is still small compared to the population of approx 61 million people.

All Spiritualist Churches have the same 7 principals (from the NSAC ). However the wording may differ :

We believe in God.
We believe that God is expressed through all Nature.
True religion is living in obedience to Nature's Laws.
We never die.
Spiritualism proves that we can talk with people in the Spirit World.
Be kind, do good, and others will do likewise.
We bring unhappiness to ourselves by the errors we make and we will be happy if we obey the laws of life.
Everyday is a new beginning.
Prophecy and healing are expressions of God.

The speech therapist Lionel Logue became a life long friend of King George V1 but what is less known is that when his beloved wife Myrtle died in 1945 Logue, until then a Christian Scientist became a believer in Spiritualism and regularly attended services to see if he would get messages from his wife. Logue died in 1953.

The official line is that police do not seek help from people claiming to be clairvoyants - but the pressure to solve crimes can lead to a softening of the rules, writes Kim Arlington.
It was a case that made international, albeit slightly sardonic, headlines.
''Psychic finds wrong corpse,'' reported Britain's favourite tabloid, The Sun. ''At least someone was found,'' the New York Daily News conceded.
In August, a fortnight after six-year-old Kiesha Abrahams went missing from her Mount Druitt home, a ''hunch'' led an Aboriginal elder to bushland in Sydney's west.

There, in the Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside, Cheryl Carroll-Lagerwey made a gruesome discovery: a human torso minus the arms, legs and head, wrapped in plastic beside a creek.
The remains were not those of Kiesha but of Kristi McDougall, a 31-year-old mother who had disappeared two months previously. Two people have since been charged with her murder.

Lily Dale in Chautauqua County in New York State is one of America's oldest and most famous communities that is devoted to Spiritualism.

The community provides a series of seminars and meetings throughout the year. There is a fee for admission to the grounds, which include a museum. The Marion Skidmore Library. Lily Dale Museum & Historical Society, bookstore, shops, and a snack bar. Also of note to the potential tourist is the Lily Dale pet cemetary. The pet cemetery is located at the entrance to the LeoLyn Woods a towering old growth forest.

The town of Lily Dale has its own Volunteer Fire Department, water supply and two swans named Lily and Dale. Visitors must pay a gate fee of $10 per person during the summer season which runs from mid-June until Labor Day. Gate fees are waived on Sunday morning to allow nearby residents to attend church services. Included in the gate fee is admission to a variety of daily and weekly scheduled events: mediumship demonstrations, thought exchange meetings, and healing services, among others.
